ABOUT CONDITION GRADING Print

We endevor to describe the condition of our pens as fairly as possible.  Grading a pen's condition is quite subjective, and we try to be conservative  in assigning a grade.  We try to adhere as closely as we can to the following descriptions when grading a pen:

MINT:
Perfect, factory new, shows no signs of use or having been inked, may be new old stock (NOS)
NEAR MINT:
May have been inked once or twice, otherwise no signs of use or wear
EXCELLENT +:
Minimal wear, imprints sharp, no brassing
EXCELLENT:
Minimal wear, imprints clear, minimal brassing (clip ball spot brassed and/or 5-10% brassing on cap band(s))
EXCELLENT -:
Showing modest signs of wear, imprints light but clear, 10-15% brassing on trim
EXTRA FINE:
Some wear including minor scratches, or light teeth marks, imprint light, more brassing than Excellent -
FINE:
Used, parts show wear, very light imprint, significant brassing (20%+)
GOOD:
User quality with significant use and wear, significant brassing (30%+), imprint light to worn, but still a presentable pen
FAIR:
Pen has significant flaws, such as cap lip crack(s), and/or barrel thread crack(s)
